Hello!
I used to have a blog called 'Emma's Bookery', so I'm not new to blogging but I felt that an introductory post was needed anyway. As much as I loved my previous blog, for some reason it didn't feel right anymore and I wanted to start afresh with this one, so hello and welcome to A Batch of Books.
My name is Emma, I'm 26 years of age and I started blogging in 2014. I live in the South East of England with my fiancé Sam and my cat Fergus (no doubt he will make an appearance on here at some point.
At the moment I don't really know where my life is heading, but I'm doing my best to figure it out. The pandemic hit me quite hard. Some big and amazing life changing events happened; I bought my first home, I got engaged, but then on the flipside I was left unemployed in March 2020 from a company who ended up blanking me and ultimately not hiring me. My previous employer refused to furlough me, and from then on I've been applying for jobs and working for my brother in a convenience store. Without this job, I wouldn't be in my home and, well, I don't really know what would have happened.
Previous to this nightmare, I was a bookseller for three years in a London bookshop, and I really wish I could find a similar role where I live now. I loved being amongst books, meeting authors, and other book lovers alike. So, I wouldn't say career wise I'm doing very well, but I'm sure things will work out eventually. Without my fiancé and my family, I think I would be in a very bad place mentally. If they find this sometime, then thank you.
If you previously followed my other blog (thank you obviously), I'm still going to focus on sharing my book reviews on here and perhaps some personal posts, but I won't commit to a specific aesthetic, that never works for me as much as I try. So this will be whatever it wants to be. It could last a lifetime or perhaps not even a week, but it's such a lovely feeling to have a 'blank canvas'. It' feels like when you buy a new notebook or in school where you would get a new exercise book at the beginning of term. I think that's how I would like to treat this blog (to start with anyway). No doubt they'll be some scribbling out, or rather boring and uninspiring content at times, but something might catch your eye.
Unexpectedly, I wanted to (like last time) 'start-up' on the platform Blogger. When I converted to WordPress with Emma's Bookery I found it a nightmare to navigate and achieve what I wanted to. At time it seemed the thing to do and provided me with a few more fancy themes, but Blogger makes me feel comfortable and not daft as a brush because I don't understand certain terminology no matter how many times I Google or watch YouTube tutorials. So praise be to Blogger!
Anyhow, thank you to anyone who is reading this and sticking around.
Best wishes,
E.
